Description
Horus, God of the Sky and Set, God of Storms, were the Patron Gods of the Pharaohs of Lower (symbolized by the papyrus plant) and Upper (symbolized by the Lotus plant) Egypt. In this picture they are symbolically uniting Lower and Upper Egypt. Older Egyptian myth has painted Horus and Set as arch-nemesis'. Set was at first seen as a evil God and said to have murdered his brother Osiris (Horus' father), causing Osiris to become God of the underworld. Early Egypt had two Pharaohs (usually a father and son or brothers). When Egypt became one Kingdom under the rule of one Pharaoh the story of Set and Horus changes. Set eventually becomes a benevolent God. This drawing took me a lot of time (more then the others). The detail of the background was the most time consuming. I have included the Ankh (the Egyptian cross), the symbol of immortality and the afterlife. There is also the Wedjat (the Eye of Horus), the symbol of the all seeing eye that protected the Pharaohs. The lighter tiles are the names of Set and Horus in hieroglyphics (Set being the longer name).
